This report outlines the role of digital technologies in the provision of career guidance. It was commissioned by the c ommittee on career guidance which is advising the Norwegian Government following a review of the countries skills system by the OECD. The gender and age profile of the house building sector

The UK house-building industry is being challenged to deliver a increasing number of new homes. However, it is also facing skills shortages among its workforce, as older workers leave the industry but are not replaced by new entrants. This report aims to establish the diversity of the house-building industry in terms of the age and gender profile of the workforce and is over-reliant on older workers. Women are engaged in house building, but in relatively small numbers and predominantly in office-based roles. The industry is taking steps to tackle the growing skills shortages, but more needs to be done. This report summarizes the actions that have been taken so far, and identifies opportunities for further progress on increasing the diversity of the workforce in the future.NHBC Foundatio

Development of a team approach for the teaching of reading at seventh grade

The purpose of this paper was to document the inception of a seventh grade reading program as it moved away from teaching to the median and worked instead toward individualization based on need. Points for consideration: 1) Bases on which student weaknesses were identified. 2) The team teaching approach used to meet these needs. 3) The scope and sequence of the program. 4) Materials used. 5) Evaluation as an ongoing part of the program. 6) Semester evaluation as two types of gains based on the evening of the reading profile as determined by Stanford Diagnostic Reading Test Level II. The eighty-two students involved in this program are all middle class children enrolled in the seventh grade at Whitnall Middle School in Greenfield, Wisconsin

'They've got their backs to the sea': Careers Work in Kent's coastal schools

Kent's coastal schools are a highly diverse group of institutions which serve a range of different communities. In a literal sense the young people of Kent have got their backs to the sea. Despite their relative proximity to the economic heartland of England, they remain separated by distance and geography. Many of the challenging issues that have been identified for young people in coastal towns are strongly related to their careers. Career describes the individual’s progression through life, learning and work. Individual’s careers are profoundly influenced by the context within which they pursue them. But, context does not wholly define your career. With the right information, support and education people can make the most out of their circumstances, seize the opportunities around them and change, improve or leave their immediate environment. Career guidance describes a range of educational interventions that are designed to help people to realise their potential and make the most of their career

Valuing the Student Contribution to Practice.

The value of student nurses in developing nursing practice has been recognised, and appreciating them not only supports the development of a learning organisation but also enables mentors to reflect on their own skills. This article identifies how students contribute to practice when they are included as members of the multidisciplinary team, and discusses a leadership framework that can be used to promote student integration within the team
